Here’s my question: WHO puts fluorescent lights in a coffee shop?? What is up? Lamps, people! Lamps or indirect lighting. First of all, there is a glare on my laptop screen. Second of all, have we NOT heard of ambiance?
I am aware that I have lighting issues. ESPECIALLY if it has to do with fluorescent lights. But I also have a problem with unbalanced light (too bright in one part of the room, and not enough in another–like maybe I’m facing a window or something.) I’m just not a fan of overhead lighting. Yes. I realize that there far more legitimate things to complain about (like the foul odor emanating from SOMEWHERE near the coffeshop chair I’mĀ sitting on…GROSS!) Or maybe starving people in the world or global warming or something. It still baffles me how someone would open up a coffee shop without thinking about lighting.
That’s all I’m saying.

Yep, fluorescent lighting doesn’t belong in a coffee shop. Part of what makes a coffee shop a coffee shop is ambiance, and fluorescent lighting merely detracts from that.
Haha! I’m so glad you feel this way because your attitude really came in handy every time I told you one of my overhead lights doesn’t work…..I of course feel like a slacker for not at least trying to get to the root of the problem, electrically speaking. But that’s not my area of expertise, so I’ll just hide under the cozy blanket of “ambience” and encourage everyone who comes over to appreciate my lighting too (or lack there of….). Heehee
Haha. Now I’m curious…which coffee shop might this be? I don’t frequent them often. I guess I’ll have to make the rounds before long.
Maybe you could be a coffee shop reviewer on the side?
Wendy,
Let’s just say it used to be a ‘Piece of Cake’ to get there. Now where I’m moving to, there is ZERO coffee shops so I shouldn’t be complaining. Well, wait, there is one on the college campus, but then not one for the next 10 miles.
Ha! geoff and I went there ONCE, when we left he said “something is weird about that place.” Funny the Mr. Electric in him didn’t kick in!
This is why I will forever be a City Coffee girl. That place has NIIIICE lighting, and now that I have discovered the joys of their “Mayan chocolate” coffee drink (it has chili powder in it, I believe) I will never go elsewhere.
You know that, if he changed the lighting, 400 people would write letters to the editor saying “that stupid blah blah aroma coffee shop has the worst lighting! how are you supposed to see” blah blah – i really like that place, so i’m finding it hard to criticize! they have the best chai latte i’ve had and i’ve had a lot, sister! AND the owner comes up to me in walmart, atwoods, etc, and remembers my name, which wins him BIG brownie points! I wish I could do the same – Mike? he looks like a Mike……sheesh. Wait…weren’t we talking about the lights? Yeah, I don’t like overhead lighting either…..
Well I’m not really the observant type and I only recently heard of your light issues. I feel ever so bad about my dysfunctional kitchen situation but at least we’ll get the balance issue resolved before long. Now that you mention it that IS a really bright coffee shop. Huh, I thought it was the creamer situation that kept me away. Who knows. It’s all subliminal to the unobservant.
